Things that make a difference

Those of you who are regular followers of the Friends of Yellowman via the website, Facebook or Twitter will know how we have supported Dave through our fundraising for Weston Park Cancer Charity and Rotherham Hospice. For those who are new to our group, along with Dave getting a laugh out of some of the events which have taken place it has also helped to give him a reason to fight this dreadful disease. With each challenge the Friends of Yellowman has taken on, Dave has been there too supporting us.

But this post isn’t about raising money it’s about the little things that people do that make a difference when times are not going as we would hope. Dave and Fiona are having a really tough time at the moment; physically with the pain Dave is suffering at the moment due to completing Chemo just after Christmas, recently having a course of radiotherapy which unfortunately hasn’t work and struggling to get the correct level of pain relief. On top of this there is the emotional distress caused by uncertainty of what each day will bring, having hospital appointments and the everyday tasks of living a normal life, the feeling of not knowing if you will get out of bed and have a wash and get dressed, emotionally wanting to but being unable to physically because of the pain.

So back to the reason for this post. A couple of days ago Fiona’s hair straighteners broke and Dave was talking to Jim Foley his friend in Australia, who is a Director for H2D, Jim contacted Nigel in the UK who is an old friend of David’s and arranged for a new pair of straighteners to be sent to Fiona. He wouldn’t take any money and a donation has been made to the Friends of Yellowman.

Dave and Fiona were gob smacked at the thoughtfulness of this gesture and pleased that there are some very good people out there supporting our charities via Friends of Yellowman, not only the wonderful individuals but companies across the world. It is really amazing how generous people are.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Jim, Nigel and of course H2D.
